Do you want to make your own invitations?  It can be a way to prevent budget bulging.  However are you creative or just think you are?  If you are unsure, look at other invitation in magazines or at Bridal shows.  See if something appeals to you.  If not, then try yourself.  Be sure to get an unbiased opinion when it is complete. 

When you make your own invitation, take inventory of what materials you want to us and check the cost of all the supplies.  Then break down the cost to the “per invitation” cost.  If is economical for you then why not.  It will add stress to your preparations, but if you start WAY in advance, then one thing will already be done and all you have to do is address them and mail them out.

If the “per invitation” cost with your time doesn’t save you money and adds to much stress, then find someone who does custom designs, let them know your idea and/or show them an example of what you are thinking.  They may use your idea or they may have a different design they would like to try in your theme.  Our friend Cheryl Jablow does custom invitiations that can’t be beat – they are beautiful.  Her website is www.socialfrogdesigns.com  she does a wonderful job of working with her clients to make the perfect invitations and designs.

The use of stickers, stamps and paper are all incorporations of specialty designs.  You can have invitations printed by a printer who only does them as a business, you can order them online or through a catalog as well.  Unfortunately the catalog and online designs are usually cookie cutter styles and you do not have any imput as to changes, other than ink color or paper colors.

Start looking for invitations as early as you can, that way if you do choose to make your own you are not rushed in the end.
